Victory, Podiums and Drama for Johor Racing at GT World Challenge Fuji

GT World Challenge Asia Powered by AWS – Rounds 7 and 8, Fuji International Speedway, Japan

The Fuji rounds of the GT World Challenge Asia produced plenty of action for the Johor Motorsports Racing Team, with the team celebrating a third victory of the season, claiming on a race podium, and suffering a dramatic final-turn crash in Sunday’s race.

His Highness Tunku Abdul Rahman Al-Haj Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, Tunku Panglima of Johor (HH Prince Jefri Ibrahim) and Ben Green produced a dominant display in their Corvette Z06 GT3.R, as they led Sunday’s second Pro-Am race from start to finish, with Prince Jefri eventually claiming his third win of the 2025 Championship.

Englishman Green, who’d clinched his second pole position of the season in the #99 car, set a relentless pace right from the start and built a comfortable cushion over the record field, before handing the car over to Prince Jefri.

In front of Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, Prince Jefri continued stretching the lead out to over 18 seconds before a late safety car condensed the field. The prince held his nerve off the restart to complete the last-lap dash and take a memorable victory.

Saturday’s race the day prior saw HH Tunku Abu Bakar Al-Haj Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, Tunku Putera of Johor (HH Prince Abu Bakar Ibrahim) and Australian Jordan Love successfully stand on the podium for the first time in 2025.

Having qualified second-quickest for the race, Prince Abu Bakar remained calm despite constant pressure from behind for most of his stint. Love picked up from the former GT World Challenge Asia champion, engaging in some big on-track battles before crossing the finish-line in a hard-earned third overall, and achieving the #66 car’s first podium result of 2025.

Prince Jefri and Ben Green completed Saturday’s race in P6, despite serving a 15- second longer pitstop for winning the previous round at Buriram.

Sunday’s race was one of heartbreak for Prince Abu Bakar and Jordan Love.

Starting on the front row, Love lost a position going into the first turn and finished his session in P3 before handing the car over.

The late crash and safety car period produced a frantic last lap for the drivers, and Prince Abu Bakar was spun around in the final turn while holding down P3. He limped the damaged Corvette to the pits to register a DNF.

With four rounds left in the 2025 championship, Prince Jefri Ibrahim provisionally sits second in the points. Rounds nine and 10 of series will be held at Okayama International Circuit, Japan, on 29-31 August.

HH Prince Jefri Ibrahim:I’ve got to thank Ben for putting our car on pole and making our job slightly easier, but there was a lot of fast cars around. I just had to put my head down, complete my laps, and do what I know I can do. I was enjoying the gap that we’d built, so it was frustrating to see the safety car so late in the race. But I want to credit the amazing work the team put in to give us a great car, and to thank the family who came to watch and everyone for their support back home.

Ben Green:The late safety car was disappointing, as we lost the 18-second lead that we’d worked so hard to build over the course of the race. But Prince Jefri did an amazing job to extend the lead that I’d built early on, and he controlled the race fantastically off the restart, which resulted in a great win for us and the team.

HH Prince Abu Bakar Ibrahim:Saturday’s race was our first podium with the Corvette. We’ve been fighting hard all year long, so it was good to get the podium overall. You always want to give something back to the team and this is one they deserved. Most of my family, including my mother, were here and to have her support this weekend meant a lot to me.

Jordan Love:I was super-happy to come away with my first podium in Saturday’s race. Prince Abu Bakar had a huge battle in his first stint and he showed some awesome racecraft. It was super-special to get a good result, and to lock out the front row of the grid for Sunday’s race. It was a huge credit to the team; the car was a jet all weekend.
