Johor Motor Racing has released a new documentary ‘Brothers In Racing’ which offers a behind the scenes look into their first round of the GT World Challenge Asia series.
The race team was founded by the Johor Royal Family, sovereign leaders of Malaysia’s southern state linked to Singapore. JMR is powered by the Australian-based Triple Eight Race Engineering and Mercedes-AMG, driving the car maker’s GT3 race model.
Through the trials and tribulations of the weekend, we see the bond of the two Royal brothers Prince Jefri Ibrahim and Prince Abu Bakar Ibrahim as they race together for the first time in front of friends, family and a home crowd at Sepang International Circuit. The challenge of running two cars overseas put the Triple Eight team to the test, but they came out on top to secure multiple podiums. Prince Jefri Ibrahim secured first place in Round 1 and Prince Abu Bakar Ibrahim was able to walk away with second place in Round 2.
The documentary features interviews with their co-drivers Jazeman Jaafar in car #888 and Nick Foster in car #99, as well as the Triple Eight Race Engineering team. The Princes have a strong bond and reaching this significant milestone together at their home circuit is perfectly fitting.
Prince Jefri Ibrahim expands “Racing in my own country of course is special. It’s our home race. I had my first GT debut here and first win here in Malaysia. It is really special for us, especially as a team that’s growing… to be racing at our home race with my brother and having support from family and friends is really great.”
Speaking on the Prince’s preparation and progress, Nick Foster says “so far he’s (Prince Jefri Ibrahim) doing a really good job, naturally we have stuff to keep building on but it’s off to a good start.”
Discussing Prince Abu Bakar Ibrahim, he says “My initial impressions are unreal. He’s got an awesome attitude when it comes to driving and the way he goes about everything he does in the car and outside of the car and works hard with JJ as well.” He continues, “They’ll be a force to be reckoned with through the year. The whole JMR team is quite a strong little operation at the moment”.
The documentary was released on Wednesday 14th September across social media and youtube.
