The youngest prince of the Johor royal family, Price Abu Bakar Ibrahim has quickly earned a reputation as a fierce competitor with raw speed and a take-no-prisoners approach to racing whenever he’s on the track.
After earning three podiums in the Thailand Super Series in 2019, Prince Abu Bakar Ibrahim emerged on the GTWC stage with three podium performances across the Asia and Australia championships in 2022. Those efforts played a vital role in JMR claiming the GTWC Asia Pro-Am Team’s championship that year.
However, it was 2023 where he really made his presence felt. He stormed to a first-ever win at the first round of the GTWC Asia Pro-Am championship at Chang International Circuit and achieved a total of six podium results from 12 races; it was a tally that saw him only narrowly miss out on clinching the 2023 championship. In the same year he also featured four times on the GTWC Australia rostrum.
2024 saw him chalk up another six podiums in GTWC Asia on his way to fourth in the championship standings.
Armed with the new Chevrolet Corvette, 2025 was a roller-coaster season as Prince Abu Bakar took on the GT World Challenge Asia Championship. However, he was able to put a tough start behind him to finish the season strongly with multiple race podiums.
The talented prince helped JMR to successfully complete of the Crowdstrike 24 Hours of Spa, and was heavily involved in the team’s Pro-Am podium performances at both the Suzuka 1000 and the Bathurst 12 Hour.
