Triple Eight Race Engineering is excited to announce their Pro-Am entry for the 2022 Bathurst 12 Hour, scheduled for May 13-15. The Mercedes-AMG GT3 will be piloted by 2021 Supercars Champion Shane van Gisbergen, and Red Bull Ampol Racing rookie Broc Feeney as the entry’s ‘Pro’ drivers. Joining the team’s Supercars stars is Prince Jefri Ibrahim, the team’s ‘Am’ driver and current GT World Challenge Australia pilot.
Having taken part in the event on three occasions before, 2022 marks the second time that Triple Eight will compete independently, as well as backing from MANN-FILTER, the premium filtration brand of the global filtration expert MANN+HUMMEL, who supported the team’s entry in 2020 when they clinched a podium finish in their Pro entry.
“The Bathurst 12 Hour is one of my favorite events on the racing calendar, and I’m so glad we were able to postpone the event to later in the year to accommodate for the international teams,” said van Gisbergen, who won the Bathurst 12 Hour in 2016.
“It was devastating that the event couldn’t go ahead last year, because it’s such an intense and grueling race, and to compete against some of the best drivers in the world for the Bathurst 12 Hour title is pretty special.
“I love racing in all forms at The Mountain, but I’m hoping we can capitalise on our podium finish in 2020, and along with Broc and Prince Jefri, give it a real crack in the Pro-Am category.”
Triple Eight Race Engineering’s Managing Director, Jamie Whincup, echoed van Gisbergen’s sentiments and thanked MANN-FILTER for their ongoing support of the team’s Bathurst 12 Hour campaign.
“The Bathurst 12 Hour is a marquee event on the Australian racing calendar, where some of the most talented drivers and best-looking cars in the world are on display,” he said.
“We’re grateful for MANN-FILTER to Partner with us for this year’s event. We had the best-looking livery at the 2020 race, and I have no doubt when we release our livery later in the year, it’s going to look even better.
“The Bathurst 12 Hour has been a significant event for Triple Eight in growing our excellent relationship with Mercedes-AMG. We give every single race our best effort, but this year’s event will carry even more weight for us as it will be our first 12 Hour running AMG’s Customer Racing division for Australasia, a responsibility that we are proud to bear.”
“We’re delighted to continue our partnership with Triple Eight Race Engineering” emphasises Serdar Dogan, Director – Automotive Aftermarket (RoA) at MANN+HUMMEL. “MANN-FILTER is ready for the new challenge and with these fast drivers we will be able to fight for a top position at the Mount Panorama.”
The 2022 Bathurst 12 Hour will be Broc Feeney’s second appearance in the main event, after making his debut in 2020, finishing in 15th position. It will be Prince Jefri Ibrahim’s debut race at the event.
Triple Eight will release the Mercedes-AMG GT3 livery in the prominent yellow-green MANN-FILTER design closer to the event date.
